Creative & Lateral Thinking

The deliberate techniques for generating non-obvious solutions — inverting the problem, borrowing structure from other domains, and turning constraints into design fuel rather than treating creativity as luck.

This section covers the mechanics of generating new ideas on demand: switching between divergent and convergent modes, attacking problems backwards through inversion, transferring solutions by analogy, and using tight constraints to force originality. The through-line is that creativity is a set of repeatable moves, not a personality trait.

Topics

# Topic What you'll learn
01 Divergent vs Convergent Separating idea-generation from idea-selection, deferring judgment, quantity-then-quality, when to widen vs narrow
02 Inversion Thinking Solving the opposite problem, "how would I cause this to fail?", via negativa, pre-mortems
03 Analogical Thinking Borrowing solutions across domains, mapping structure not surface, biomimicry, the risk of false analogy
04 Constraint-Driven Creativity Using limits to force originality, the blank-page problem, artificial constraints, less-is-more design

How to use this section

Each topic has five depth levels — junior → middle → senior → professional — plus an interview Q&A bank and hands-on tasks. Start at your level and climb. Read 01 first to frame the create-then-filter cycle; 02–04 are three independent generators you can reach for when stuck.
